History

Kusugawa Station opened on 12 April 1905 alongside the rest of the Hanshin Main Line as the original Imazu Station. It was renamed Kusugawa on 19 December 1926 when a new Imazu Station opened nearby. On 13 December 1949 a runaway Hankyu Imazu Line train crossed onto the Hanshin tracks and ploughed roughly 700 metres along the line before colliding with the platform here; Hankyu cars were then slightly wider than Hanshin's, and the incident is remembered locally as the "raid". Services were suspended after the Great Hanshin earthquake on 17 January 1995 and fully restored by 26 June 1995. Grade-separation around the station was completed in 1986, and station numbering HS 15 was introduced on 1 April 2014.

Notes

Although Koshien Station is only 700 metres away, some baseball fans walk between Kusugawa and Koshien on game days to avoid the crush at the stadium station.
