History
Himejima Station opened on 12 April 1905 with the Hanshin Main Line itself, originally named Hiejima Station (稗島駅) after the local placename; it was renamed Himejima on 30 May 1925. It became a semi-express (sub-rapid) stop on 7 April 1991, gained full sub-rapid service from 10 March 2001, and lost all express services in the 20 March 2009 timetable change that introduced the Hanshin Namba Line. Station number HS 05 was introduced on 1 April 2014. Today only local trains stop, with the exception of express trains specially scheduled for the Naniwa Yodogawa Fireworks Festival each summer.

Notes
Among Hanshin's all-stops-only stations Himejima has the second-highest ridership, behind Kasuganomichi; the 1.5 km gap to neighbouring Chibune is tied for the longest interstation distance on the Hanshin network.
