History

Mito Station opened on 10 December 1925 as part of the Osaka Electric Tramway Yagi Line (now Kintetsu's Osaka Line), on the section between Nagase and Kyūhōjiguchi. The station passed to Kansai Express Railway following a merger on 15 March 1941 and to Kintetsu Railway in a further merger on 1 June 1944. Up and down passing loops were installed on 26 July 1949 to permit overtaking. PiTaPa service began on 1 April 2007. From 22 February 2025 stopping trains were rerouted to use the outer tracks (platforms 1 and 4) exclusively, with the inner tracks (2 and 3) reserved for through trains; safety fencing was subsequently installed on the inner platforms.

Notes

The station has no internal connection between its two island platforms; transferring between directions requires exiting the gates, crossing at a level crossing, and re-entering on the other side.
