History

Susa Station opened on 25 March 1928 as the terminus of the Ministry of Railways' San'yō Main Line — actually the San'in Main Line — when the line was extended from Iinoura. The line was further extended to Utagō on 24 February 1933, and Susa became an intermediate stop. Freight operations ended on 1 March 1978 and parcels on 1 February 1984. The station passed to JR West at the 1987 privatisation of JNR. The original wooden building burned down by arson on 4 February 2002, and the present "Fureai Station Susa" replacement opened in April 2004. From 18 April 2021 the TWILIGHT EXPRESS Mizukaze cruise train began stopping here.
