History
Onji Station opened on 30 September 1925 when the Osaka Electric Tramway Yagi Line (today the Kintetsu Osaka Line) was extended from Yao to Onji, serving the city of Yao, Osaka Prefecture. The line was extended onward from Onji to Takada in July 1927. Wartime consolidations brought the station under Kansai Express Railway in 1941 and Kintetsu Railway in 1944. The section through the station was elevated in two stages on 15 May and 29 October 1970, and the platform was simultaneously shifted 0.1 km toward Osaka Uehommachi. PiTaPa contactless ticketing began on 1 April 2007. The station became unattended around the clock on 10 November 2024, with remote-monitoring equipment installed.
