History

Nijō Station opened on 1 July 1927 on the Osaka Electric Tramway Yagi Line, the present Kintetsu Osaka Line, when the section between Onji and Takada (now Yamato-Takada) was inaugurated. Following the 15 March 1941 merger of the Osaka Electric Tramway with the Sangu Express Electric Railway the line passed to the Kansai Express Railway, and the wartime merger with the Nankai Railway on 1 June 1944 brought it under the Kintetsu Railway. The station has two opposed side platforms above ground with the ticket gates and concourse underground; the effective platform length accommodates six cars and the station is unstaffed.
