History

Kiyo Station opened on 15 November 1931 as an intermediate stop on the Japan Government Railways Mine Line when that line was extended between Nago and Utagō. The Mine Line section incorporating the station was rolled into the San'in Main Line on 24 February 1933. Freight handling ended on 1 February 1963 and baggage handling on 21 February 1979, after which the station became unattended. With JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987 it passed to JR West. Heavy rains in July 2013 closed the line and the station did not return to regular service in the Susa-Nago section until 10 August 2014. Since 26 March 2016 some trains terminate here rather than continuing to neighbouring Nago.
