History
Tonoki Station opened on 1 March 1940 on the Hanwa Electric Railway between Ōtori and what is now Kita-Shinoda, conceived as the access point for the company's Tonoki residential development. The Hanwa Electric Railway was absorbed by Nankai in December 1940 and was wartime-nationalised on 1 May 1944, becoming the Hanwa Line of the Ministry of Railways. The station passed to JR West with the 1987 privatisation of JNR. A west exit and a converted underground free passage opened on 1 November 2011, and station numbering JR-R34 was introduced in March 2018.
