History
Matsunohama Station opened on 10 December 1914 as Sukematsu Station on the Nankai Railway between Kuzuha (now Takaishi) and Ōtsu (now Izumiōtsu). It was renamed to its present name on 15 December 1960. Elevation works began in February 2003, with a temporary station in use while a new structure was built. The up line was elevated on 7 June 2008 and the down line followed on 4 August 2012; the latter shifted the station centre about 86 m toward Wakayama, changing the distance from Namba from 19.4 to 19.5 km. The station became fully unstaffed on 1 April 2013.
