History

Sana Station opened on 20 March 1923 as a stop on the Railway Ministry's Kisei East Line, when the section between Ōkaguchi (now Taki) and Tochihara was opened. The line was extended to Kawazoe on 20 November the same year. The 15 July 1959 Railway Line Nomenclature revision incorporated the Kisei East Line into the Kisei Main Line. Freight handling ended on 1 July 1963, and parcels handling was discontinued with destaffing on 21 December 1983. With the privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987 the station passed to the Central Japan Railway Company. The original wooden station building was demolished in February 2000 and replaced by a small shelter. The station has two opposed side platforms linked by a footbridge, 49.6 kilometers from Kameyama.
