History
Nagato-Misumi Station opened on 3 November 1924 as the terminus of the Japan Government Railways Mine Line during its extension from Masaakishi (now Nagatoshi) Station, in what is now the city of Nagato, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The line was extended onward to Hagi the following April, after which the station became an intermediate stop. The wooden station building was destroyed by fire on 12 December 1932, and this stretch of the Mine Line was reclassified into the San'in Main Line on 24 February 1933. Freight handling ended in 1977 and the station became unstaffed in 1985, with simple-consigned ticket sales discontinued at a local shop in 2014. JR West took over operation at JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987.
