History
Takihara Station opened on 18 August 1926 as the terminus of the Japan Government Railways Kisei East Line, in the town of Ōdai in Mie Prefecture's Taki District. The line was extended onward to Ise-Kashiwazaki on 3 July 1927, leaving Takihara as an intermediate stop, and the route was reorganised into the Kisei Main Line on 15 July 1959. Freight operations ended in 1962 and the footbridge connecting the two side platforms was completed in 1975. The station has been unstaffed since 21 December 1983 and operation transferred to JR Central upon Japanese National Railways privatisation on 1 April 1987. Around 2006 the station building was rebuilt as a simple concrete structure, although a wooden shelter still survives on the up platform.

Notes
Although Takihara sits within the town of Ōdai, the station effectively serves residents of the adjoining town of Taiki across the Ōuchiyama River, making it that town's gateway despite the administrative boundary.
