History
Hatsukaichi Station opened on 1897-09-25 with the San'yō Railway's extension between Hiroshima and Tokuyama, handling passengers and freight in what is now Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima Prefecture. The line was nationalised in 1906 and became part of the Sanyō Main Line in 1909. The original station building was rebuilt in 1964, freight ended in 1980 and parcels in 1986. JR West took over at the 1987 privatisation. ICOCA gates were installed in June 2007 and the operation was contracted out from 2008. After a four-stage rebuild during 2014-15 the new elevated bridge-station opened on 2015-10-03, with platform displays and new station-front amenities; the Midori-no-Madoguchi closed in April 2022 and was replaced by a ticket vending machine.

Notes
Although Hatsukaichi is the city's nominal main station, neighbouring Miyauchi-Kushido Station actually handles more daily passengers.
