History
Nagato-Awano Station is an unstaffed stop on the JR West San'in Main Line in the Hōhoku area of Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, opened on 7 December 1930 during the extension of the Japan Government Railways Mine Line from Nagato-Furuichi to Agawa. This portion of the Mine Line was incorporated into the San'in Main Line on 24 February 1933 and freight operations ceased on 1 June 1963. The station passed to West Japan Railway Company at JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987 and was reduced to a single-track halt on 15 April 2017 when the former island platform was simplified. In July 2023 torrential rain damaged a bridge between Nagato-Awano and Agawa and forced a prolonged service suspension, with through trains finally resuming in September 2025.

Notes
Awano River, which the line crosses near the station, is locally known for the aonori green-laver gathered at its mouth — a regional speciality.
