History

Mizushiri Station opened on 7 February 1999 as a JR West infill stop on the Kure Line between Koyaura and Saka, 79.3 km from Mihara. It serves Saka town in Aki District, Hiroshima Prefecture. ICOCA became available on 1 September 2007. The platforms were buried by a debris flow during the July 2018 western Japan floods, suspending service until rail traffic on the Hiro-Saka section resumed on 9 September that year. In March 2024 the ticket gate was moved to a new overhead walkway during construction work, turning Mizushiri into a small elevated station; the "Mizushiri Station Pedestrian Bridge" connecting the platform to Bayside Beach Saka was completed on 1 July 2024.

Notes

The station's pedestrian bridge, completed in July 2024, was funded jointly by Hiroshima Prefecture and JR West partly as a tsunami-evacuation route from the adjacent Bayside Beach.
