History

Sambommatsu Station opened on 1928-04-15 as an intermediate station when the Ministry of Railways extended the Kōtoku Main Line eastwards from Sanuki-Tsuda to Hiketa. The station, located in Higashikagawa, Kagawa Prefecture, was originally the gateway to the town of Sambommatsu, then to Ōuchi, and is today the de facto main station of Higashikagawa. Freight ended in 1984 and parcels in 1985. With the 1987 privatisation of JNR the station passed to JR Shikoku. The Sambommatsu stationmaster post was abolished on 2010-10-01 and oversight transferred to Takamatsu. Since October 2021 the Midori-no-Madoguchi was replaced by a Midori-no-Kenbaiki-Plus machine, and on-station services run on weekdays only with shorter hours. The station carries station number T12 and is served by all Uzushio limited expresses.

Notes

Despite being a smaller station, Sambommatsu's daily passenger volume exceeds that of the neighbouring limited-express stop Sanuki-Shiratori, thanks to heavy commuting traffic from Kagawa Prefectural Sambommatsu High School.
