History

Tsushimanomiya Station opened on 7 May 1915 as a provisional stop on the route that became the JR Yosan Line. It was reclassified as a seasonal station on 1 October 1969, and passed to JR Shikoku at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. Located in Mitoyo, Kagawa Prefecture, the station serves the nearby Tsushima Shrine and opens only on 4 and 5 August each year to coincide with the shrine's summer festival. Operation was suspended in 2020 and 2021 when the festival was cancelled due to COVID-19, resuming in 2022. The station does not accept IC contactless cards and has no plans to introduce them.

Notes

Operating only on 4 and 5 August each year, it has the shortest annual opening of any active station in Japan.
