History
Akiaga Station opened on 1935-03-24 with the extension of the Kure Line between Kure and Hiro stations, in what is now Aga-Chūō, Kure, Hiroshima Prefecture. The "Aki" prefix was added to distinguish it from Aga Station on Nichinomaru Auto's Hōshōji Railway in Tottori Prefecture. Freight ended in 1963 and parcels in 1985. JR West took over at the 1987 privatisation. A Midori-no-Madoguchi opened in September 1989. After the 1982 closure of the Niho ferry route, Akiaga inherited the ferry-train connection to Horie in Matsuyama, with the Kure-Matsuyama Ferry calling at Aga port. The elevated bridge-station building opened on 2006-07-01, ICOCA service began on 2007-09-01, and the Midori-no-Madoguchi closed in September 2023.
