History
Yutama Station opened on 16 August 1925 when the Japanese Government Railways extended the Ogushi Line (later absorbed into the San'in Main Line) from Ogushi to Takibe. The line was reclassified as part of the San'in Main Line on 18 February 1933. Freight was discontinued in 1961, parcels in February 1986, and the station was made unstaffed two months later. JNR privatisation transferred Yutama to JR West on 1 April 1987. A small pharmacy occupies part of the rebuilt seaside station structure since November 2007. The station was closed from July 2023 when typhoon damage severed the line, with bus replacement service running until partial restoration in June 2024.
