History

Kuroe opened on 1 November 1966 between Kainan and Kimiidera on the Kisei Main Line; the local community covered the entire construction cost of 40 million yen, making it a petitioned station. The 1987 break-up of Japanese National Railways placed it under JR West. Rapid services began calling there with the 15 March 2003 timetable revision, ICOCA contactless ticketing was added on 30 August 2015, and the staffed ticket window closed on 12 March 2021. Station business was transferred from JR West Mentec to JR West Customer Service on 1 July 2021. The structure consists of two side platforms on an elevated concourse from the day it opened, but the absence of switches and absolute signals means it is classified as a halt rather than a full station.

Notes

The northern end of Platform 2 has its own dedicated exit reserved for pupils heading to the Chiben Gakuen Wakayama elementary, junior-high and high schools next door.
