History

Sanuki-Saida Station opened on 1923-05-21 as an intermediate stop when the Japanese Government Railways' Sanuki Line was extended eastwards from Kotohira to Sanuki-Saida, in what is now Saida-Chō, Mitoyo, Kagawa Prefecture. The station, today carrying station number D18 and located at an elevation of 151.6 m, is the sole rail stop in the Saida district of Mitoyo. Although the place name is read "Saita", the station name takes the variant reading "Saida". Freight handling ended in 1970, the station was contracted out in 1983 and parcels ended in 1984 before the station was destaffed on 1985-02-01. JR Shikoku took over at the 1987 privatisation. The original 101-year-old wooden station building was demolished on 2024-05-08 because of age, and a new aluminium-roofed shelter opened on 2024-07-31.

Notes

An ancient tabunoki tree near the station entrance, designated Kagawa Prefectural Protected Tree No. 92 and estimated to be 700–800 years old, was carefully avoided during the building of the Dosan Line.
