History

Minoshima Station opened on 28 February 1924 as the terminus of the Kisei West Line in what is now Arida, Wakayama Prefecture. It became a through-station on 11 December 1925 when the line was extended south to Kii-Miyahara. The route was consolidated as the Kisei Main Line on 15 July 1959, and a 1980 timetable revision made the station a stop for some Kuroshio limited expresses. JR West took control at privatisation on 1 April 1987. Barrier-free works including platform-gap fills and an elevator were completed in March 2014, IC card service began in December 2016, and the Midori-no-Madoguchi closed on 29 February 2020, replaced by a ticket-vending machine.

Notes

Although Minoshima is the central station of Arida city, the name reflects the former local town name; Arida itself was named after its surrounding county, and other "Arita/Arida" stations exist on entirely different lines.
