History
Fujinami Station opened on 8 August 1926 as a stop on the JNR Kisei West Line, and the privately operated Arita Railway simultaneously opened its own Fujinami Station alongside, making it an interchange from the start. The Arita Railway section from Fujinami to Kaigan was suspended in December 1944 as a non-essential line and formally abolished in April 1959. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the JNR side passed to JR West. After a station rebuilding programme begun around 2007, a new elevated station building opened on 15 March 2008 and the station became a stop for some Kuroshio limited express services. ICOCA service began on 17 December 2016.
