History
Tsukuda began on 28 April 1929 as Tsukuda Signal Box, a junction between the Tokushima Line and the then Sanyo Line (now Dosan Line) when the latter was extended southwards from Sanuki-Saida. It was upgraded to a passenger station on 10 January 1950 under Japanese National Railways. On 18 July 1962 Tsukuda was designated the official end of the Tokushima Line, although in practice Tokushima Line trains continue through to the next station at Awa-Ikeda over Dosan Line track. The station was made unstaffed on 1 April 1983, and operation passed to JR Shikoku at the 1987 privatisation of JNR. An island platform serves both lines.

Notes
On paper Tsukuda is the origin of the Tokushima Line, but no Tokushima Line train actually terminates here — all of them continue over Dosan Line track to Awa-Ikeda, giving Tsukuda the unusual status of a starting station that no service actually starts from.
