History

Iyo-Saijō Station opened on 21 June 1921 as the terminus of the then Sanuki Line, extended westwards from Iyo-Doi. It became a through-station on 1 May 1923 when the line was further extended to Nyūgawa. The Midori no Madoguchi opened on 1 April 1977, and the present station building dates from 20 December 1968. Freight handling ended on 15 November 1982 and parcel service on 1 November 1986. With privatisation on 1 April 1987 the station came under JR Shikoku. The on-platform approach jingle was changed in March 2015 from "Seto no Hanayome" to "A Thousand Winds" by local tenor Masashi Akikawa. A barrier-free upgrade completed on 25 September 2017 added a new elevator-equipped footbridge. Station number Y31.

Notes
