History
Ishizuchiyama Station opened on 2 July 1929 as a temporary stop on the then San'yo Line, and was upgraded to a permanent station on 21 March 1933 under Japanese Government Railways operation. Freight handling ended on 1 June 1970 and parcel handling on 8 November 1971, when the station was made unstaffed under an outsourced ticketing arrangement. Operation passed to JR Shikoku on 1 April 1987 at privatisation. The small original station building has been refurbished and remains in use. The station serves as the nearest stop to Ishizuchi Shrine, although the route to the shrine itself is not maintained.
