History
Kyōikudai-mae Station opened on 13 March 1988, a year after JR Kyushu inherited the Kagoshima Main Line, as a new infill stop serving the Fukuoka University of Education campus from which it takes its name. The station sits 44.6 km from the line's starting point at Mojikō. Automatic ticket gates were installed on 31 July 2000, and SUGOCA IC fare service launched on 1 March 2009. The Midori no Madoguchi staffed reservation counter closed on 11 March 2022. The layout consists of two opposing side platforms in a cutting, with the station building attached to a road bridge built above the tracks.

Notes
The next station northward, Akama, attracts riders even from areas geographically closer to Kyōikudai-mae because it has more frequent rapid services, leaving this station with an unusually limited catchment.
