History

Fukkōdai-mae Station traces its origin to Shingū Signal Box, opened by Japanese Government Railways on 1 June 1915. It was promoted to a passenger station and renamed Chikuzen-Shingū Station on 1 October 1920, with its location shifted roughly 300 metres toward Hakata. Freight handling ended on 1 October 1961. The station was rebuilt in 1987, the same month JR Kyushu took over, and an entirely new station building opened on 28 May 2003. The station was renamed Fukkōdai-mae on 15 March 2008 to reference the adjacent Fukuoka Institute of Technology. From the 3 March 2001 timetable change, all rapid-service trains now stop here.

Notes

One of the station's two exits, Fukko-guchi, runs through Fukuoka Institute of Technology grounds and is restricted to people affiliated with the university — the rest of the public must use the north exit.
