History
Tofurōminami Station opened on 11 March 1989 as an infill stop added by JR Kyushu to the existing Kagoshima Main Line, occupying a site straddling the Dazaifu and Chikushino city boundaries. Automatic ticket gates were installed on 4 March 2000, SUGOCA IC service began on 1 March 2009, and the staffed ticket window closed on 11 March 2022. The station became wholly unstaffed on 18 March 2023. Two opposed side platforms serve two tracks and are linked by a footbridge; the only entrance lies on the northern, downbound side. A vending machine and a simple SUGOCA reader handle ticketing and IC fare top-ups.

Notes
Although it serves Dazaifu, the station sits in the city's southern fringe and the platforms straddle the boundary with neighbouring Chikushino City.
