History
Yayoigaoka Station opened on 3 March 2001 as an infill stop added by JR Kyushu to the existing Kagoshima Main Line in Tosu, Saga, serving the new Yayoigaoka residential hillside development. Automatic ticket gates were fitted from the start of operations and SUGOCA IC service began on 1 March 2009. The automatic gates were removed on 25 January 2018, the staffed ticket window closed on 11 March 2022, and on 1 October 2023 the station reverted from outsourced operation to direct JR Kyushu management. Two island platforms serve four tracks with passing loops, allowing local trains to give way to limited expresses; the station building sits on the west side.

Notes
Although the station is intended for the surrounding hillside housing development, the nearby Tosu Premium Outlets and a riverside Amazon fulfilment centre are also served by buses from the station.
