History
Ueki opened on 1 July 1891 as an intermediate stop on the privately built Kyushu Railway, the day the line was extended south to Kumamoto. The Kyushu Railway was nationalised in July 1907, and the section through Ueki was redesignated as the Hitoyoshi Main Line on 12 October 1909 and the Kagoshima Main Line that November. From 1917 to 1965 the Kahon Railway (later Yamaga Onsen Railway) ran through-services into Kumamoto via Ueki, ending with its closure on 4 February 1965. Goods and parcels handling ended in 1976 and 1984, full staffing was withdrawn in 1986, and JR Kyushu took over at privatisation on 1 April 1987. The station became unstaffed again in 2015.
