History

Mochibaru Station opened on 1 April 1965 when Japanese National Railways added it to an already-running portion of the Nippō Main Line, 382 kilometres south of the line's starting point at Kokura. The station serves the rural Mochibaru district of Mimata in Miyazaki Prefecture and has been unstaffed and freight-free from the day it opened. Its platform sits in a shallow cutting reached by steps descending from the access road, and the only structure is a small shelter at platform level. The station passed to JR Kyushu on 1 April 1987 with the privatisation of JNR, and in 2022 was transferred from the Kagoshima branch to the new Miyazaki branch.
