History
Kouchiumi Station was opened on 8 May 1963 by Japanese National Railways on the day the then Shibushi Line was extended north into Minami-Miyazaki and the whole route from Shibushi was rechristened the Nichinan Line. The site lies on a sidehill cutting 19.9 kilometres south of Minami-Miyazaki in the Uchiumi district of Miyazaki city, reached only by a flight of steps from the access road. The platform carries a single track and a shelter, with no station building. Typhoon No. 14 caused a landslip on 16 September 2021 that damaged the approach and forced relocation of the staircase. The station passed to JR Kyushu with privatisation on 1 April 1987.
