History
Kushikino Station opened on 15 December 1913 when Japanese Government Railways completed the Sendai Line section between this site and Higashi-Ichiki. The line was extended to Sendai the following June, and the wider route through Kushikino was redesignated as the Kagoshima Main Line in October 1927. The original 1913 wooden station building was demolished in December 2006 because of deterioration; a prefabricated temporary structure carried operations until a new black-themed station opened on 18 March 2007. SUGOCA acceptance began in December 2012. The Midori no Madoguchi closed at the end of 11 March 2022 and the station has been wholly unstaffed since the following day. JR Kyushu took over on 1 April 1987.
