History

Soga Station opened on 20 January 1896 as a stop on the Bōsō Railway (now the Sotobō Line). The railway was nationalised by the Imperial Railway Agency on 1 September 1907. What is now the Uchibō Line joined as the Kisarazu Line on 28 March 1912, and the freight-only Keiyō Rinkai Main Line opened on 16 September 1963. JNR was reorganised on 1 April 1987 and Soga passed to JR East, with the Keiyō Line reaching Soga on 1 December 1988. A 1991 rerouting moved the Sazanami and Wakashio limited expresses onto the Keiyō Line via Tokyo, making them all stop at Soga. Suica acceptance began on 18 November 2001 and the Dila Soga retail concourse opened on 29 August 2004.

Notes

Soga's departure jingle has been JEF United Ichihara-Chiba's official anthem "Over" since 18 November 2007, reflecting the football club's home ground at the adjacent Fukuda Denshi Arena.
