History

Kizu Station opened on 13 March 1896 as a stop on the Nara Railway, in what is now the city of Kizugawa, Kyoto Prefecture. The Kansai Railway connected its own line to the station in 1898 and both private operators were nationalised in 1907, turning Kizu into a four-way junction within the Japanese Government Railways network. With the 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways, Kizu came under JR West control. Station numbering was introduced in March 2018, with the platforms gaining the numbers JR-D19 (Nara Line), JR-H18 (Gakkentoshi Line) and JR-Q38 (Yamatoji Line). The station has two elevated island platforms linked by an elevated concourse and is staffed.

Notes

Kizu is the terminal point of the 44.8-kilometre Gakkentoshi Line from Kyōbashi and simultaneously a through station on both the Nara Line from Kyoto and the Kansai Main Line from Nagoya, giving it three separate JR West station numbers.
