History
Shinagawa Station opened on 12 June 1872, when service between Shinagawa and Yokohama provisionally began four months before the formal inauguration of Japan's first railway line. The Yamanote Line started running through here on 1 March 1885, and Keihin Electric Express Railway's Takanawa Station opened opposite on 11 March 1925; in 1933 that platform was renamed Shinagawa and moved to its present site. Tōkaidō Shinkansen platforms opened on 1 October 2003, with all Shinkansen services calling here from the March 2008 timetable revision. Station numbering KK01 was assigned by Keikyū on 21 October 2010, with JR East following in 2016. Despite its name, the station lies in Minato Ward, not Shinagawa Ward.
